Some of the very basic differences between a XML firewall & a multiprotocol gateway are:

  • A Multi-protocol Gateway has all the features available in XML firewall plus the capability of communicating by multiple communication protocols at both the front-side and the back-side.
  • The processing policy that you specify with a MPG can actually be used by any combination of protocols at front-side and back-side because protocol handling is done out-of-the-box by the firmware.
  • MPG does not support loop-back mode.
  • MPG can use the SLM action but XMLFW cannot.
  • MPG supports IMS, HTTPS,MQ & other protocols whereas the xml firewall can not support above protocols.
