What is REST?

REST is a term coined by Roy Fielding in his Ph.D. dissertation to describe an architecture style of networked systems. REST is an acronym standing for REpresentational State Transfer.

Implementing RESTful Web services

The Java API for XML Web Services (JAX-WS) provides full support for building and deploying RESTful web services. The API was developed through the Java Community Process program as JSR 224. It is tightly integrated with the Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) for binding XML to Java technology data and is included in both the
Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 and the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5.
